Anxiety Unraveled: Are You Freaking Out or Just Freaking Awesome?

Hey there, magical being! Let’s talk about anxiety, shall we?

First things first, try not to go all label crazy and start calling yourself “anxiety personified.” Instead of saying “my anxiety,” refer to it as “the anxiety.” It’s not yours to own, babe.

Now, we all experience normal levels of anxiety from time to time. It’s no biggie. For example, if you get a little freaked out at theme parks but are totally fine with hitting up the movies or shopping malls, it doesn’t automatically mean you have anxiety. Same goes for worrying about stuff like taxes, exams, snarling dogs, or even the dreaded corona virus. Those fears don’t necessarily classify you as having anxiety.

Anxiety is more sweeping and radical, my friend. It’s not just about being afraid of one thing or another. So, don’t slap the anxiety label on yourself just because you’re not a fan of big parties or crowded spaces. Having some specific preferences doesn’t mean you have a social disorder.

Let’s face it, life can be a rollercoaster of stress for many reasons. Maybe you’re struggling with finances, going through relationship drama, drowning in student debt, or dealing with the chaos of homeschooling or illness. Those are legit concerns, and it’s totally normal to worry about them. But it doesn’t automatically mean you have an anxiety disorder.

Some people are just wired to be more triggered by future uncertainty. If you’re a planner and a control freak, you might feel the anxiety creeping in more than someone who’s a free-spirited, go-with-the-flow kind of soul. That’s just how we roll, baby.

Believe it or not, research suggests that wealthy folks actually experience more anxiety than those who aren’t swimming in cash. Sounds a bit ironic, huh? But hey, when you’ve got everything to lose, the pressure can be intense.

Here’s the thing. Our emotions reflect our worries, so if you’re feeling anxious because you’re worried, it doesn’t automatically mean you have a full-blown disorder. It’s just a normal response to difficult situations. Got it?

Now, let’s not medicalize or overthink these normal reactions. In these crazy times of social distancing and the whole coronavirus mess, it’s okay to have some “normal anxiety.” Nobody knows what the future holds, after all!
